Cinematographer & Producer

About

Dominique Hessert Owens is a Director of Photography and Producer based in Los Angeles.

A Maine native, Dominique is currently based in the Los Angeles Metropolitan area. She recently finished working as the Director of Photography and Associate Producer on Pamela, a love story, an intimate and humanizing portrait that follows the trajectory of Pamela Anderson’s life and career from smalltown girl to international sex symbol, actress, activist, and doting mother.

Previous to joining Tripod Media, Dominique worked as the staff cinematographer and video producer for The New Yorker, where she developed short documentary films that embodied her passion for immersive storytelling. It was at the New Yorker that Dominique produced, shot and edited a short documentary about Brittany Smith, a woman in Alabama facing a life sentence for shooting and killing the man that attacked and raped her in her home. When the story published, the production company Tripod Media picked up the story to pursue a longer form piece. It was then that Dominique realized her desire to spend more time with stories and its characters and to pursue long form storytelling. About a year later, an opportunity rose for her to work with the same company that inspired her shift in field, Tripod Media, on the feature documentary Good Night Oppy. Within two weeks, she and her husband swapped coasts and moved to Los Angeles, 2021. On Good Night Oppy, she spear-headed VFX efforts with Industrial Light & Magic to recount the true story of two Mars Exploration twin-sister rovers, and the bond they forced with their creators. The film went on to win 5 Critics Choice Awards.
